Makita Update
Makitas progress has been exponential during her first 30 days
on prednisone for Pemphigus.
Her lesions are 99% gone. She will continue on the current dose of prednisone
until all
lesions are gone (probably just one more month). Then the dose will be
gradually dropped
until she reaches the lowest dose that will keep the lesions away. Then
she will be in
good shape to be spayed and have the large mass removed from her chest.
The vet does not
recommend spaying her while she is on the high dose of Prednisone. So,
the earliest she could
safely be spayed would be mid September. She is currently in heat. The
mass will be easily
removed because it is not attached to the body except at the skin. It
is about the size of an
extra large chicken egg or maybe a bit larger. She will continue with
the thyroid medicine for
now. Her dose was increased today. She is more active now. I took her
to walk and she was
pulling me along. The people at the kennel love her. I took her to my
house to show my husband
how much she has improved. He wanted to keep her but Sasha (one of my
akitas) would not allow it.
